Which Operating Systems Are the Most Popular?

If you’re on a PC, you’ll almost certainly be choosing between two operating systems: Windows hosting and Linux. If you’re not technically inclined, you’re probably intimately familiar with Windows and a complete stranger to Linux. The general consensus is that Windows is more user-friendly but Linux has more functionality. These are far from the only two operating systems in existence, but they are the only two you are very likely to encounter unless you are a serious programmer.

So Should You Choose Windows or Linux?

Again, if youre a relative newbie, your temptation will be to go straight to Windows. Don’t be too quick to do this though. People who use Linux swear by it. The best approach would probably be to get some basic Linux instruction and play around with it before you start looking to host your website. You’ll probably get the hang of it pretty quickly and if you like it, go with it. If it’s too complex for you or it just doesn’t quite fit, go with Windows. However keep in mind that certain applications may not work with one operating system or another. If this is the case and you have a critical application that your website needs, you’ll have to go with the OS that supports it.
